Good afternoon! How are you on this absolutely frigid January day. Damn, it is cold in the United States. Where I live we are at a whopping 10 degrees F. That is up from a low of -5 overnight. I think it’s going to start getting a little bit warmer over the next few days but still not great. Sigh . . . those of you who’ve read my previous posts know how I feel about winter and those feelings are not kind.
I am happy to announce that the second necromancer book is now available on Kindle. “Deadly Deception” is the second installment in the series and I am nearly finished with the third book and hope to have it out by spring. I’m still enjoying writing about Erasmus and Franklin’s lives. I like their characters and some of the side characters as well. Aurelia is always fun to write as is Warlock Holland. I’m not sure how many books will be in the series, but at this time, I’d say at least four.
I’m contemplating writing a compilation of short stories involving the pixie series. I’ve had some inquires about this and have been considering it for some time. There were several side characters in that series that I really fell in love with and would like to explore a bit more. I will let you know more about this in the future.
In unrelated book news . . . considering my main profession, pet ownership and care might be a little different for me in some regards. In others, it is painfully similar. I recently discovered that my cat, Newton, is diabetic. I’ve treated several diabetic kitties over the years and was heartbroken to have one of my own as I know how pet parents battle with this disease. I’ve started Newton on a newer, oral feline diabetes medication that came out about a year ago. He’s been on this for about two weeks and so far so good. Sort of. Poor Newton hates taking the medication and I hate having to give it, but it’s necessary and so far he hasn’t held it against me for too long. He’s even been so kind as to pee on a stick for me so I can test the ketone and glucose levels in his urine. I can’t even imagine what goes through Newton’s head when I place the stick under him while he’s doing his business in his box. He has to think I’ve gone mental.
Fennik is doing relatively okay, although he’s had his ups and downs recently also. Poor Fen was limping terribly around Christmas. I still have no idea why (which made me feel really good about my veterinary abilities). His poor, stocky body isn’t made to limp and he has a lot of trouble when one leg isn’t on the up and up. Thankfully, he seems better now. He also has a brand new heart murmur to welcome in the New Year. Given his breed, this isn’t wholly unexpected, but I’d hoped his heart valves would hold tough for a bit longer. Clinically, he’s doing well and has no idea that he’s worrying his momma. He’s also loving life outside as he’s insane and adores this cold weather.
On a possibly brighter, or maybe more interesting, note, I’ve decided to add a bit of a new section to the posts. I’m going to try (no promises or guarantees) to add a personal fun-fact to the end of each post.
This fun-fact is brought to you by a reader who commented about my AOL account and that she was happy to see someone else still has theirs. Yes, I have retained my AOL account (as you can see on the how to contact me section). I did this because for a while, I moved a lot, and it was a way for old friends to still find me. I also have several professional organizations that have the account number and send me reminders through e-mail when it is time to renew.
As for the personalized aspect of the account . . . I obtained Luna as a kitten while I was in veterinary school. The person I originally got her from had named her, “Bug”. That is where the lunabug comes from. As for the 272 part, would you believe that lunabug1, lunabug2, and so on and so forth were all taken when I signed up for my AOL account eons ago. Even lunabug27 was already taken (At the time, 27 was how old I was going to be when I graduated from vet school). So, I added a 2 to the end and there you have it: lunabug272@aol.com.
So, some maybe not so interesting information there. I enjoy seeing some of my clients e-mail addresses. Some of them are quirky while others are eyebrow raising. Either way, I think they’re another way we express ourselves.
I suppose that is all for now. I hope you enjoy the next installment in Erasmus Boone and Franklin O’Hare’s lives. I know I enjoyed writing Deadly Deception. As always, if anyone has any questions, please feel free to e-mail me (you all know the address by now π
Until next time, try and stay warm, sane, and well. As for me, I’m going to cocoon myself inside a big fluffy blanket and watch some Expedition Unknown (I have a soft spot for Josh Gates. Perhaps another fun-fact).
